How we started
MedSchool Mentors was created to solve a problem we experienced firsthand. When our co-founder, Daniel Polsky, applied to medical school, he worked with a well-known private admissions consulting company and spent over $10,000 throughout the process. While some of the guidance was helpful, it quickly became clear that the service did not justify the cost. Much of the advice felt generic, impersonal, and disconnected from the realities of an admissions landscape that changes every single year.
After starting medical school, Daniel began advising pre-med students one-on-one. He worked with friends, classmates, and referrals, sharing the lessons he had learned both as an applicant and as someone who had seen the inner workings of private consulting. These sessions were practical, honest, and highly individualized. Students consistently reported that this approach felt clear, realistic, and reassuring throughout the application process.
Seeing how impactful direct, student-to-student mentorship could be, MedSchool Mentors was born. We are a team of current medical students who have recently and successfully navigated the admissions process ourselves. Because we are close to the process, we understand its challenges, nuances, and evolving expectations. We believe high-quality guidance should be accessible, ethical, and tailored to the individual, not locked behind inflated price tags.
